Big D confused the hell out of me

Hi Joe, Jerry and Sugar Kane,

Listening to the deep dive for The Winter Line got very confusing when Big D reached for his tinfoil. I am going to have to listen again more carefully with a notepad.

However the assertion that the timeline doesn’t seem to match up is interesting especially as Nolan and Joy have form for this. So I thought let’s rewatch both episodes and see if there’s anything.

Immediately in the cold opening for episode one, there’s a line from Delores which stood out having D’s question in mind.

Delores says “I’m the last of my kind”.

So a hypothesis would be to accept this as a true statement – meaning this takes place before Bernard is created as we see at the end of season two.

What if what we are seeing is Delores’s essence in the cold opening but she is still inside the Charlotte bot? This could explain why she isn’t physically recognised by Gerald. It is the sort of slight of hand which the showrunners are capable of.

This could mean that the “90 days after the incident” Charlotte is also still Delores.

This would place the Delores and Liam Dempsey Jr interactions as being later in the linear storyline.

It could also explain who was purchasing Delos to take it private. Incite. For Delores, the investment is a means to an end. For Incite, ownership would allow them to have access to Westworld and explain why they had Mauve.

I don’t have all the pieces for this to sit that comfortably but it does give the story a bit more time to breathe. Otherwise we are experiencing a very compressed timeline which would be Game of Thrones type jet-packing.

Probably wrong about most of this but nobody’s perfect.

Really enjoyable deep dive as always.

Cheers – John Lish

Now that is interesting. I love the idea that we see Dolores because we know it is her, but her body is different. Now you have me thinking all sorts of crazy things! Love it!
