Episode 1 Opening

Greetings guys! I’ve been listening since episode 1 and this has thoroughly enriched my viewing of Westworld. I don’t know of anyone else watching this in my circle of friends, so its great to have your podcast as a way of kicking around ideas about the show.

You seem to assume that the opening of Episode 1, with Dolores sitting nude on the stool in the Delos under-levels, must be at the end of the season or the entire story, after whatever kind of host-led revolt has taken place and things have turned ugly. She has two blotches of blood on her left cheek.

But at the end of Episode 1 in the shoot-out in Sweetwater, Teddy gets shot and killed. Dolores is weeping over him. Then the next scene, it has turned dark, the husband and wife guests are posing for pictures with the bodies of the two bandits they killed, propped up in caskets. Elsie is there watching. Then Elsie turns around and notices Dolores, still weeping over Teddy’s body, and there we see two blotches of blood on her left cheek.

So, the opening of Episode 1 is just a foreshadowing of the end of that first episode. I’m not sure what this does for your discussions up to this point, but there you have it.

Thanks for your hard work putting these podcasts together!
