Season 3’s Missing Ingredient

Hi y’all.

Had to write this in a hurry, so chop it up and patch it up as you see fit….

I love the vibe of your show.
I also love Westworld – the deep subject matter, the plot lines, the actors, the set pieces, the music, most of the characters, etc… Season 3 was shaping up to be the coolest, most intriguing, TV season ever, but it just didn’t click with me for one reason…

…I didn’t get to take a ride with the characters. I love twists and turns, but I want to experience them as the character realizes them. Not knowing the intention of most of the main characters – most of the time – is like taking a road trip along the most amazing scenery with someone you barely know and you suspect they may be a psychopath.

Imagine…

– We know Deloris and her copies want to destroy humans…but we have empathy for them (and possibly even root a bit for them) because they really focus on making us feel the utter hell they lived from being abused in the most sadistic ways for decades…a living hell…They wake up in terror every morning with their memories…
– We know Caleb hates technology and the lack of any real intimacy in today’s world…he knows about hosts because we remembers the park experience…but he hates every aspect of the hosts and AI…he’s old school…and he also looks in and provides for his mom and his drug-addled sister’s daughter…we know the character’s true character…we have someone to fucking root for…
– Deloris then meets Caleb (now for the 2nd time by sheer coincidence (?) and he saves her again.
– Caleb ends up appreciating the hosts and realizes they are more sentient than most humans on a loop…Deloris sees the beauty in his love for his family and remembers all the beauty from she has experienced…and they both change their direction based on their shared experience with each other. They know they must still burn shit down to build a new world…but the new world will be only for the brave…only the brave can be free…

Some copies of Deloris don’t want to change course, maybe others do…based on their experience outside the park…really cool conflict…

Maeve is not just told about what kind of hell she and her daughter would be condemned to, but she is put in that hellish simulation…now we really feel why she isn’t willing to take a chance on betraying the big bad…

You get the idea…

The best stories allow us to really get into the mind of the main characters…we were kept out…what a shame… Even in season 1 we know what Deloris, Teddy, young william, old william, and most of the characters wanted…or at least the motives that drove their behavior…yet we still had mad mysteries to try and solve…

Give me plot twists…love em’….but let me know what at least some of the main characters’ motives and objectives are…

The writers and crew that put this show together are talented way beyond my capabilities…god love ’em…but if you want to put someone on the edge of their seat and really enjoy the ride..you got to let us know where the characters are trying to take us…
