Game of Thrones Episode 2 Review: “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms”

“A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms,” Game of Thrones’ second episode of Season 8, mastered the herculean feat of bringing all our favorite characters together inside Winterfell’s walls and reminding us how much we have invested in the battle to come.

Along the way, Episode 2 gave us laughs, heartfelt moments, and one particularly steamy scene. This intersection of all the lives still living beautifully illustrated just who our on-screen friends had become over 8 seasons. Sansa Stark went from princess to prime minister. Jon Snow from bastard to badass. Arya from tomboy to terror. Daenerys from property to powerhouse.

We’ll take a Deep Dive into Podrick’s song, “Jenny of Oldstones,” and what it says about Jon’s and Daenerys’ Targaryen romance. This tragic ballad has rich roots, and Big D is following them far into the past.

Big D also uses his expert eyesight and keen military awareness (plus just reading the script) to answer a terrifying question: Just how many White Walkers are there?

Spoiler alert: way too many.

Plus, catch a lightning round of Time to Guess, where we roll the dice and try to predict what Episode 3 will reveal.

Storyline for Episode 2: “A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms”
Jaime reveals Cersei’s deception to the Targaryen””Stark alliance and, despite Daenerys’s and Sansa’s mistrust, joins their forces after Brienne defends his loyalty. Jaime later apologizes to Bran for crippling him, with Bran stating he is not angry, and they are no longer the same people. Tyrion loses Daenerys’ favor for believing Cersei, prompting Jorah to ask her to forgive his mistakes. Citing their mutual love for Jon, Daenerys tries and fails to gain Sansa’s trust after refusing to give any assurances about the North’s fate. Theon, Edd, Tormund, and Beric arrive at Winterfell, with the latter three reporting House Umber’s fall. Bran proposes that he lure out the Night King, who intends to destroy the Three-Eyed Raven. His plan is reluctantly approved, with Theon and the Ironborn offering protection. Gendry finishes a special weapon for Arya, who then seduces him. Tyrion, Jaime, Davos, Brienne, Podrick, and Tormund gather for a drink, during which Jaime formally knights Brienne. Jorah fails to dissuade Lyanna Mormont from fighting, and he receives House Tarly’s ancestral sword as a gift from Sam. As the Army of the Dead approaches, Daenerys finds Jon at Lyanna Stark’s tomb and learns about his Targaryen lineage and claim to the Iron Throne.

Damn, Rene, you did pretty well. The Death List was considerably shorter than any of us thought. How do you feel about it?

  3. James says:

    Hey guys, love the shows.
Wanted to float an idea from s8e2. What if Arya slept with Gendry so that she could steal his face. We don’t know all the rules of face stealing, but maybe Arya has it figured out. She steals his face, so that she can get close to Cersei, since Gendry also has claim to the thrown. Cersei lowers her guard for long enough that Needle claims its final prick (PRICK.)

    • Gene Lyons says:

Why would Cersei want to get close to Gendry? And why would Arya kill a friend she’s had since she fled King’s Landing?

  4. Nancy Foroughi says:

Love Tyrion’s line after he says he’d be ripped apart by dead men. “After I’m dead I’ll march down to Kings Landing and rip her (Cersei) apart.

  5. Douglas Salonen says:

Bran. I have three ideas. 1. Kill Bran right now. No big battle. Everyone survives. Granted there will be everlasting night but Bran might have been lying in case anyone wants to kill him. 2. Chop off Bran’s arm. If that mark is a GPS for the Night King, then toss it back over the wall and he’ll think that Bran is over the wall and not attack Winterfell. 3. Ship Bran to King[s Landing.

  6. Kritta says:

    Plot Twist**

What if the Night King skips winterfell and goes straight to King’s Landing. “Recruits” the Golden company etc. Then kills/turns Cersi into a white and she becomes the Night Queen?
