Hello, gentlemen!

I wrote in previously about Taboo’s plot connection to H.P. Lovecraft’s Charles Dexter Ward, but I wanted to go a bit deeper this time.

First, I’d like to bring in Arthur Macken’s The Great God Pan, the beginning of which introduces us to a women who is experiment on in order to open her mind to the spiritual world around us or, as Dr. Raymond would say, “seeing the Great God Pan.” If we believe that the ghosts of Taboo are real, then I believe a similar procedure has been done on James. However, instead of a character like Dr. Raymond, I believe either Native Africans or the people of Nootka Sound initiated it, using something akin to Silene undulta. It is further important to point out that the women who underwent the procedure in Machen’s story went horribly insane, and I believe we’re starting to see glimpses of James’ spiral into a similar insanity; going back to H.P. Lovecraft, there are some things man is not meant to know or see.

There was one other fact that I don’t believe anyone has brought up yet. We know Zilpha is James’ half sister, but I believe she’s the daughter of James’ mother, not his father, and has been raised English. I think there could also be a subtle connection between Zilpha and her namesake, Zilpah, implying James’ son is also Zilpha’s.

As always, thank you for your time and your amazing podcasts; keep up the good work!
