Symmetry and George”s Final Plan.
Like many, I felt some disappointment at some of the aspects of season 8, but as the show digests, I had some insights that I thought were clever.
Maester Aemon and Jon parallel.
Maester Aemon was at one point in line for the throne, but he instead went to the Wall to allow his younger brother Egg to lead. While Jon didn’t have the same choice, this was the same sacrifice Jon made for his younger brother/cousin.
I also believe that Bran fully knows there was no need for a Night”s Watch and that his entrance was just lip service. He gave Jon an out, to give the man who doesn’t want to rule a chance to be who he truly is.
I at first, thought the show did a disservice making the Night King and the White Walkers the mid-season villain. I assumed that they were the end game villain, but then I thought about the upcoming books. Emphasis on books, plural.
I now suspect that The Winds of Winter will end with the defeat of the Others, but “A Dream of Spring” will cover everything from episodes 4-6 (and more book plot) I used to think Dream meant “hope” and now am more convinced that it means delusion. As in it was a dream that Spring would come after they all unite to defeat Winter. Instead, they return to their petty squabbles and no change has occurred.
