Westworld Theories Vs Enjoyment

Have a Theory? Share It Now!

Hey guys.

Really enjoying the pod. Made for great road-trip thoughts and discussions with my brother over Thanksgiving break.

I really identified with the thought that too many viewers are wanting to solve the mystery as opposed to enjoying the show. I must admit first that I probably discuss this show way too much with my fiancé, brother, and friends, processing theories and such. The first step to recovery is recognition and admitting our addictions though, right? I have been a part of 3 different groups who want to watch the show together, and I enjoy all of them because they all have their own ideas about what is going on, and although they may bleed together at some points, the group-thinks are often rooted in separate theories.

BUT. I am growing more and more weary of the conversations and the resolve that so many people have about their own theories.

For example, I told my fiancé after Trace Decay that the conversation around multiple timelines and William/MiB is intriguing, but I could care less whether he is or not, so long as the writers bring us the twists and turns to reveal narrative plot points in breath-taking ways. I don’t want to see it all coming. And if I do, please make it happen in a way that I didn’t see it all coming, if that makes any sense.

Although I personally do not want the Man in Black to be William (even though there is a lot of evidence pointing to it), I can still be okay if that is truly the case. We might be missing a lot when we over-analyze. There should be enjoyment and wonder in this show, just as much as there can be deep thought and consideration for it’s implications – inside the show and in the world of the viewer.

This slightly bleeds into last week’s telegraph where one contributor brought up that the show is a good analogy for our own lives, and the control of media is setting us on our loops (or something to that effect). Is this show itself setting us on our weekly loop? Probably. Is that a bad thing? Probably not. Am I becoming sentient as I read this?

That’s enough, Dev. Freeze all motor functions.

Thanks for reading guys. Keep up the good work.
