Where’s the Comfort In Clones?

Yes! Big D has finally this week touched on a question I’ve been sending in to you guys since the excellent Lisa Joy-directed episode early in Season 2. Namely, WHY would Daddy Delos or anyone else assume that his actual consciousness would carry on into a digital copy of his brain and memories? I know this gets deeply philosophical fast, but my wild and decidedly unscientific guess would be that these host versions of humans would be of no more use to a human than a clone would be. The human still dies, his consciousness fades to black. What makes anyone in the world of the show gain comfort from the fact that a digital clone (basically an entirely separate, if extraordinarily similar, replica) of him or herself would be wandering the planet after the Prime human’s death?

LOVE the pod and love you guys, no matter how much you hate the show (j/k).

Totally agree. I think the only way people could get comfortable with this would be if you had an implant that supplemented your brain processing power and could slowly choose to transfer more and more of yourself to the machine implant rather than simply having a digital copy made. Or maybe create a link to a host body/brain where a person could get comfortable moving back and forth between them until they are comfortable enough to permanently transfer their consciousness to the host body.
