Wounded Warriors

Hello gentleman,

Haven’t written into your show since “West World”. Really love what you’re doing with “On the Throne”.

A series of coincidences is causing me to write in today on the last episode (“Stormborn”).

I have a very close friend that I’ve known since grade school. She’s like a 3rd sister to me. She’s also a Marine veteran, having served several tours in Afghanistan, and a “Wounded Warrior”. A severe injury has left her paralyzed from the waist down for the last 12 years.

We hadn’t spoken for a while, but she just happened to call to catch up on Monday night and we spoke for hours. One thing we’ve always had in common is that we are both nerds and, of course, we follow ASOIAF (books and show).

Our conversation about the last episode eventually brought us to the “Messandei/Grey Worm” story-line. My friend was very moved by those scenes and I realized that she actually had some “insight” into what the show may have been trying to convey. I can’t imagine what challenges a taken-for-granted gesture like intimacy may be like for my friend since incurring her injury. We both agreed that the importance of the love-relationship between these characters is about acceptance despite their circumstances.

I hope that my friend and others with similar situations can also find acceptance.

Thanks again guys, and thank you GoT!

Michael from Washington, DC.
