Aaron Paul Doing WAY Too Much
Been a listener since Westworld season 1. You guys make the show so much fun and were the only thing that got me through season 2.
After watching and rewatching Episode 3 of this season I couldn’t stop myself from thinking Aaron Paul’s role as Caleb was painfully overacted. He really overdid the disbelief and shock when speaking with Dolores about Rehoboam. It felt like Caleb was some 80s surfer dude who was suddenly thrust into 2058 and was hearing for the first time ever about all this new technology. He sounded like a confused Keanu Reaves when he was talking to Dolores at the pier.
I just can’t shake this feeling that he spent this entire episode trying to convince the audience “I’M NOT JESSE PINKMAN!” and in doing so totally undermined the solid foundation he built as this down on his luck social misfit in the first episode.
Am I totally out of line here or did any of y’all see something similar? Was it just the way the episode was written? I thought Evan Rachel Wood nailed her Dolores as usual, and Aaron Paul just seemed so outmatched in every scene.
Thanks for everything you guys do! You’re making my quarantined weeks much more bearable.
Best,
Richie H
