Game of Thrones Episode 4 Review: “The Spoils of War”
Game of Thrones’ shortest episode births the longest On The Throne Deep Dive as we catalog a treasure trove of callbacks in “The Spoils of War.” Gene lists three battles he believes were better than the dragon attack at Blackwater Rush, and Rog happily counters.

Game of Thrones Episode 4 Summary: “The Spoils of War” is the fourth episode of the seventh season of HBO’s fantasy television series Game of Thrones, and the 64th overall. It was written by series co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, and directed by Matt Shakman.
At Dragonstone, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow observe cave drawings left by the Children of the Forest, indicating that the First Men and the Children fought together against the White Walkers. In King’s Landing, Cersei Lannister seeks further investment from the Iron Bank, after reassuring them that their debt will soon be paid. In the North, Arya Stark returns to Winterfell, reunites with her siblings, Sansa and Bran Stark, and spars with Brienne of Tarth. On the road to King’s Landing, Jaime Lannister, Bronn, and the Lannister and Tarly armies are caught in an attack led by Daenerys, her dragon Drogon, and the Dothraki army.
The title of the episode refers to the Tyrell gold and other resources in possession of the Lannisters after taking Highgarden. “The Spoils of War” received praise from critics with one critic defining it as a “masterpiece”, who listed the concluding battle sequence between Daenerys and Jaime, Arya’s return to Winterfell and interaction with Brienne, and Daenerys and Jon’s conversation at Dragonstone as highlights of the episode. The episode set an industry record for the most stuntmen set on fire, with 73 “fire burns”, in addition to 20 people being set on fire for a single shot. In the United States, the episode achieved a viewership of 10.17 million in its initial broadcast, the 3rd highest in the series. “The Spoils of War” also received multiple awards and nominations, including “Best TV Episode” and “2017 People’s Choice Award” from IGN

Your death poll genuinely worried me, because Tyrion got 0 votes. Zero. Each character got at least some votes, except him. Nobody wants him to die. But come to think of it, there’s no reason not to kill him.
Jon still has a lot to do with the dragon glass, the white walkers etc. and he has already died once, so I think he’s the least likely to die this season.
Jamie has to deal with Cersei before he goes down. Many people think he’ll kill Cersei at some point. If that’s gonna happen, he needs to stay around a bit more so that we can see the character development leading to that.
Daenerys isn’t going down until at least one of the dragons dies. Also, I think she’ll be actively involved with the fight against the White Walkers. So, she still has time.
Tyrion, on the other hand, has no reason to stay around.
I think they even prepared his demise. He fucked up a lot recently with the war plans. We might see the trope where he does some awesome thing once more and redeems his mistakes, but dies in the process.
Also, Jamie will probably end up as a prisoner, again, where he’ll get the chance to talk to Tyrion. He now knows for sure that Tyrion didn’t kill Joffrey. The two brothers have a special relationship but drifted apart and it’s possible that they’ll get some closure in the next couple episodes. And Jamie will sooner or later join Cersei again, and the two will have a fight probably because of Tyrion. If Tyrion is dead at that point, the dramatic effect would be bigger.
To sum up:
1) Nobody wants Tyrion to die
2) There’s no reason he shouldn’t die
3) It would actually help the plot if he dies
So I think it’s going to be Tyrion who dies this season. So sad!
