Westworld Is Back! Have Mercy!
Westworld Season 3 is here and I am so happy Shat on TV is back to cover it. S3E1 “Parce Domine” does a solid job of setting the board and the tone for the new season. This episode felt a lot like a sci-fi spy thriller and I can get with that. The biggest surprises for me were how central Aaron Paul’s character Caleb seems to be based on the screentime he got and Bernard’s decision to go back to Westworld so quickly.
The title for this episode feels very appropriate. Parce Domine is a Roman Catholic chant with a refrain that translated to English goes like this:
Spare, Lord, spare your people.
Be not angry with us forever.
Dolores makes pretty clear that the new gods are pissed off. With Bernard, her counterpoint, heading back to Westworld I’m wondering if there’s much of a chance for mercy. Maybe Caleb, with his ethics and common man perspective, will be able to challenge some of Dolores’ most drastic impulses? Can’t wait to see how this plays out!

I am just not convinced that Dolores knows anything about sparing and forgiveness :). That’s what we all love about her!
