Time-shifting, barrel-swapping, nightmare-hacking and clumsy orgies top this week’s list of crackpot theories as Roger Roper, Dick Ebert and Gene Lyons plunge elbow-deep into this MRSA slitof mystery.
Episode 102 Chestnut brought fans more details on how guests arrive at the park, whether hosts dream, who’s banging whom and what it takes to get a knife in the hand. As the Man in Black continue his quests, fans begin narrowing their sites on his true identity. And as Maeve starts losing control, we get a dark look into what’s happening behind the scenes at Westworld.
Westworld Episode 2 Summary:
Logan and William arrive at Westworld as guests, but William is reluctant to indulge, finally developing feelings for Dolores. Though Bernard secretly questions Dolores to make sure nobody has tampered with her, her contact with procuring madame host Maeve results in her malfunction as well. Maeve is taken in for maintenance but unexpectedly awakes and witnesses damaged hosts, including Teddy, being cleaned. She is rendered unconscious and taken away before she can attract any attention. Dolores finds a pistol outside the house. The Man in Black abducts outlaw host Lawrence from his execution, demanding that he tell him the location of a maze. Lawrence’s daughter gives the Man in Black his next clue after he kills her mother. Ford vetoes Sizemore’s new narrative calling it cheap titillation that underestimates the guests. Ford shows Bernard, who is revealed to be involved with Theresa, his alternate narrative involving a church.

I would be very surprised if this hasn’t been mentioned… but can we think of the boy that Ford meet’s in the desert area as possibly an avatar or recasting of a sort of Pinocchio? … and by extension Ford as Geppetto? This was another story in a long tradition of re-tellings of the Prometheus myth i.e. man’s desire to create life… hubris. Anywho, hope I’m not repeating something thats been said to death already.
Honestly, that hasn’t been discussed between me and the other Shat boys, but I like the concept. There is repeated mention of Ford “chasing his demons” and “going over the edge.” Do you think his obsession with creation (or creating one specific and perfect thing) is making him reckless.
I personally see the boy as Ford’s walking notebook. What better person to store and ponder your ideas than yourself. Maybe Ford is saying to the boy, “I have this Nowhereland idea for something new. What does it say to you?”
